Familiar cast heads Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story
For those of you challenged by walking down the street and chewing gum at the same
time you'll be amazed at the talented cast of Stand By Your Man: The Tammy
Wynette Story, the season opener at the Mountain Playhouse. Like last season's
Keep on the Sunny Side, and before that, Smoke on the Mountain,
Honky Tonk Angels, and Cowgirls, the actors not only sing and
act, but play their own instruments as part of the action on stage.
Stand by Your Man opens June 3 and continues through June 15 with
familiar faces returning. Carrie Tillis returns to play the title role as
does Larry Tobias, playing George Jones, Wynette's third husband and famous
duet partner.
With more than 30 songs, the musical biography covers Wynette's musical career,
and looks at Wynette's personal life, which includes a bizarre 1978 abduction
that saw Wynette taken from Nashville shopping center and beaten - a crime
that was never solved.
Guy Stroman directs the show. In addition to Carrie and Larry other returning
cast members are Susan J. Jacks, playing Meemaw, and as the onstage band,
Stewart Gregory, Chris Blissett, John Atberger, Ari Rossen, Mark Weakland and
Pat Petrarca.
Amanda Ryan Paige will make her debut on the Mountain Playhouse stage and
will play the young Tammy Wynette.
